A road across a living volcano, in four chapters: ash slopes, lava fields, the crater rim and cooled flows. Lava crust lies on the road and gives way under a slow car, rocks fly from the crater, and ash falls like snow.

On the road

    Black slabs with glowing cracks: stay above about 40 km/h, or sink and burn.

  2. Lava bombs

    A glowing ring shows where a rock will land, a moment before it does.

  3. Ashfall

    Grey flakes, dark smoke and embers.

    Smoking cones with lava streams, basalt columns and fumaroles.
